Modelling Essentials
Learn the fundamental tools and core concepts of SketchUp. This is the best introduction to SketchUp to hit the ground running and start capturing your ideas.
Pre-requisites: None.
Who is this for? Anyone who wants to model using SketchUp’s unique, easy-to-use tools and sketchy presentation styles. Whether you want to present simple architectural models or furniture or for stage design, it’s really for anyone.
By the end of the day… you’ll be confident in using all the modelling tools to create your designs and understand the basics of presenting your work. We recommend taking the Presentation Essentials course as a follow-up to fully grasp the fundamentals of SketchUp.
Each 3D program has its own keys to using it and SketchUp is no exception. On this course you’ll learn about three core areas of SketchUp:
Through many different examples, you’ll learn each tool, before using all the tools and techniques together to build a simple house. Towards the end of the day you’ll be introduced to the presentation features.
Presentation Essentials
Present your model in style, using animation and artistic visuals. Learn about textures, lighting, rendering and the essentials of presentation in this one day course.
Pre-requisites: This course requires Modelling Essentials knowledge.
Who is this for? The Presentation Essentials course is for someone who knows how to model in SketchUp and wants to visualise and present their work in an artistic style. You’ll learn about texturing, basic lighting, rendering settings, and presentation.
By the end of the day… you’ll be able to present your model using your own style and show it off using animation as well as rendering stills. You’ll also grasp the basics of more photo-realistic visuals by using other rendering apps compatible with SketchUp.
After having mastered the basic tools of modelling, this course will teach you to take your model to the next level through creating visuals with correct lighting, texturing, as well as different fields of view. You’ll cover these areas:
Essentials Complete
An essential training course covering modelling and presentation in SketchUp. Over these 2 days you will cover the content of the Modelling Essentials and Presentation Essentials courses.
Advanced
Advanced is for people who want to go beyond the basics. If you want to learn SketchUp and take it to its limits then this is for you. You’ll learn powerful techniques and tools that will make you a master of SketchUp.
Pre-requisites: This course requires Modelling Essentials and Presentation Essentials knowledge, as well as some independent experience. Understandably, you have to be proficient in the basics of SketchUp to take this course.
Who’s this course for? Anyone who want more out of SketchUp. You may be hitting the buffers of what the app can do and you can’t make the app do what you need it to. This course is for those who want more out of SketchUp.
At the end of the day… you’ll realise the extent of SketchUp can do. The ability to be in complete control of your model will open up to you, and you’ll know how to go forwards when you hit a limitation of the standard modelling tools or even the limits of your own machine.

Official training centre for SketchUp
CAD School are officially an Authorised Training Centre (ATC) for SketchUp. We currently host a group course every month in our training centre in Southampton for up to 5 people. On-site training can also be arranged for companies requiring exclusive courses for their employees.
